The Franklin Conservatory

I had a fancy little date at the conservatory last week to see this fantastic light exhibit by Bruce Munro. Derek and I knew about it from our last visit to the Franklin Conservatory and I immediately put it on my to-do list. For my columbus friends, this is a must see! That field of light... it's so peaceful to sit and watch the slow pulse of the color-changing lights!

Weekend Recap

This weekend was the Summerfest concert, with headliners: Cold War Kids and Matt & Kim. It was a lot of fun and the weather was perfect for being in the sun all day! As far as Sunday's activities; Derek and I rode the Olentangy River bike trail and stumbled upon the Park of Roses (which I've been wanting to visit all summer)! So beautiful... such a wide array of colors! I'm sure it's even more beautiful at the start of summer!

Earth Day

Happy Earth Day! Columbus has been celebrating all month, as I'm sure some of your cities have been as well! I sadly have not done anything thus far to celebrate, so that needs to change. I found out that Nutur Salon is offering cuts, facials and other treatments for a minimum donation of $20; your donation will benefit the Sierra Club's Central Ohio Clean Water Campaign. Sounds good to me :) I also should get started on my garden before Earth month is over, but... I'm moving! Erin and I are adding a third into the mix, Courtney! We signed on a lovely little house in Grandview. It's not far from where I live now and we move in June! Sooo much more space for gardening; veggies & flowers! Oh, and we have a front porch swing and back deck... I will be very content. Bring on the sunshine and fancy cocktails!

{ disclaimer: no, ohio is not all farm & fields. but this is really beautiful and I wanted to share }

Columbus Color Run '12

Two weekends ago, Erin, Sarah, my cousin Beth, and I ran in the Columbus Color Run. It was so much fun!! It was as colorful and hilarious as it looks! I didn't think I would be able to run the whole thing (yes, it's only 3.1 miles) because I am not much of a runner! I did train a little bit for it, definitely not seriously though. We all ran the whole thing :) I'm really proud of us newbs! My cousin and Sarah have both run other 5ks, but this was a first for Erin and I! Yippie!

{before & after}

{Color throws happened every 15 minutes!!!}
Check out the website to see when you can sign up for a Color Run in your home-town!
It truly is the happiest 5k on the planet!

Adventures in dog sitting

This past weekend I had the pleasure of pretending to be a pet owner! A co-worker was out of town and asked around the office if someone could dog sit her Nilla and I naturally was the first to jump at that! I really would love to invest in a dog- but I keep telling myself my lifestyle is just not conducive to taking care of something else! Hence why I am ready and willing to dog-sit for a weekend... I get to pretend for a little and at the same time, I don't have worry about the costs or other responsibilities that come with owning a pet!

Meet Nilla:

Doesn't she kind of look like my dog at home, Nikki?

How adorable is that little face!?

Snuggle time! She loved my bed :)

She was such a doll! She snuggled with me every night, we went to the dog park twice, and we went a few great walks in her short stay! Having Nilla for the weekend definitely made me want a dog even more, but it helped me to realize I could not do a puppy :( I don't have the time or energy at the end of the day to do the training required for a puppy. If I could clone Nilla, then I would for sure have a dog!

In exchange for my dog sitting services, Brittany, the co-worker whose dog it was, made me mint chocolate chip ice cream via Jeni's recipe! Jeni's is a hot spot in Columbus for what I like to call 'exotic' ice cream. They have strange flavors like cherries & goat cheese or lavender lemon, but their most famous is salty caramel! I wouldn't do Jeni justice if I tried to describe how it all works so check it out!!

PS. The ice cream Brittany made was DEVINE!!!

DIY Jewelry Storage

My room is near complete and it feels so right with my newest addition! Over the weekend I was extremely productive and finally got myself to South Pointe Market to get a shelf. I was sad to find out it is closing in 3 weekends —bummer, I will have to go back before then! It has antiques and used furniture, jewelry, clothes, etc... a thrifty heaven, not to mention everything is 50% off since it's closing! Anywho... got my shelf and painted it on Saturday and then I hung it and decorated with the help of my lovely friend Melyssa on Sunday! But prior to this, about a month ago, I had found a dresser on the street for a cheap $60 and I have just been awaiting a shelf to really bring it all together and house my extensive necklace collection!

This is my simple dresser project:

sanding, painting, and purchasing some new drawer handles

The shelf is a helpful addition to my room and adds quite a nice touch if I do say so myself! Check out the dresser/shelf combo:
This was a simple paint job and some nails to hang necklaces on and finito!!

Missing the colors of fall

I get to head home to Cleveland today :) yay yay yay!!!

I dont know about Cleveland, but here in Columbus... zero snow! This only makes it feel less like Christmas, it makes me so sad! Today, I miss the beautiful colors of fall as I stare out my very grey window, counting down the hours till my drive home...

I wish the rain into snow and a much happier friday to all!!

Cake Ball - Attempt

Christmas is almost here! I cannot believe how December has flown by... Christmas is in 3 days and NYE is in 10 days! There is a lot of Christmas cheer around the office — decor and little gifts!

Charlie Brown kinda Christmas
Co-workers have also been spreading the Christmas cheer! I've gotten multiple little surprise that have made Christmas this year extra special!

Speaking of crafty things, I decided to bake for the office as my little gift! That is the one thing I am missing the most due to the working world... baking cookies and holiday preparations at home with my family! Every year my mom, brother, and I spend hours baking and decorating almost a hundred cookies... I hope they are doing ok with out me this year :( So I baked as if I were at home! I attempted red velvet cake pops (found here)

The balls them selves went quite nicely... as pictured here in part one

It was the whole putting them on a stick and dipping them where it all went downhill! I'm a little bit of a perfectionist when it comes to these things and I was getting flustered as the balls were falling off the stick into the chocolate! I resorted to dipping them solo and adding the stick later.

I also didn't have enough chocolate to dip them all so some of them are drizzled... should still be good, right? I hope :)

I am happy with the end result, but I need to try these out a few more times before they can be juuuust right!! Happy Holidays :)

Royal Factory Fashion Show

I had the honor to be a part of a new, local boutique fashion show a week ago as part of Gallery Hop! Felicia Jimenez, owner of the store, put together an amazing show that featured her collection of clothing, which is made up of some amazing vintage pieces mixed with her sister's fantastic work! She also featured 3 other local designers.
One of my VS co-workers is a close friend of Felicia, which is how I got involved in the show! I've never done anything like it before and I am glad to say it was so fun and would totally do it again! Yes, I danced on a competitive dance team but it was with other people on stage with me... walking down a high stage in heels... alone—totally different story! YIKES!! Never fear, I didn't trip, stumble, or fall. PHEW!
Hair and make-up for the show was an all day affair and my hair... WAS AWESOME! It was curled and teased. Of course it was incredibly hard to comb out... but it was crazy cool while it lasted!
Check out Royal Factory's Facebook page :)

Fashion Show

The Fashion Show viewing party was amazing! All set up with a step-and-repeat to photograph in front of... glitter and confetti on the floor... and balloons! All topped off with "bombshell" cocktails! It was for sure a night to remember!

Hope you all got to tune in because it sure was sexy!!!

The sexiest night on tv

Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is finally here!! AND It's going to be amazing... aka the "sexiest night on television!"

Tonight I get to watch it with co-workers at a fancy little "pink carpet" event here in Columbus! I literally couldn't be more excited!!!!! Also my friend Catie is coming up from Cincinnati to attend the spectacular event as my lovely date! YAY!

Check out this video of Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger" — the VS models lip-sing and have an awesome time dancing like Jagger! It will really pump you up to see them on the runway in t-minus 9 hours!!!! woot woot!!

Also check out VS All Access for info, updates, and the pre-show!

Fall time fun

This past weekend was a whirl-wind of fun adventures... a friend from college visited me this weekend, Kelsey! Another friend from UD, Courtney, came over to hang out with us and we had wonderful conversations over lots of wine... we nearly forgot to go out! Saturday we bopped around and ended up at tail-gate that Courtney's boyfriend (also a friend from UD!) put together! It was a lot fun! Kelsey and I had to leave early in time to make it to (co-worker/friend) Krysti's thanksgiving dinner! YUM :) Nothing like a pre-thanksgiving feast with friends!
Oh and I cannot forget to mention the addition of her lovely blog button to my page — CHECK IT OUT! She's pretty inspired ;)

Oh my... and on Sunday I almost bought a puppy... until I took a step back and decided to think on what a huge responsibility that would be for me right now... still thinking. But right now I'm thinking might have to go back for Dori's precious little face... eek!

Monday blues...

I had such a wonderful weekend with my friends! My favorite was Saturday... we went on a beautiful walk on High Street and window shopped after breakfast at Northstar Cafe (yum!). We caught the end of the Ohio State game with some bloody marys at Bernards Tavern, then drove around for a bit so they could see the other highlights of Columbus! We went to dinner for margaritas and more mexican... and after we met up with some new friends on campus!!

Margaret, Sam, Alyssa, me, Catie, and Sarah

Lovely fall walk & drinks!
Night #2 :)

Reason #3824 why I love my roommates/friends!!!!
Just up to the usual shenanigans stealing inanimate objects from bars...
This is Brett... right Alyssa!?

Ohhhh yes. It was just wonderful to have them all in one spot again!!!
I love you all and thanks for visiting!!
 Missing you guys already Xo

Layover {Denver, CO}

I love flying... well any type of traveling adventure for that matter! Just landed in Denver for my hour and a half layover and after walking around for a bit, I decided to blog! My computer is one of the smartest things I packed for this short stay in Sonoma. I'm not the greatest at packing, which is somewhat ironic for my love of travel — you think I would have it down pat... but maybe that comes with more experience. I have traveled a lot in my 22 years (almost 23... eeek!) but not nearly as much as I would like. So maybe I will soon learn to pack efficiently :)

One of my college roommates, Sarah, visited me a little over a week ago for a Saturday afternoon before her race in Columbus. We took a walk through Goodale Park (about a block from my apartment) and these are some lovely fall photos that make me smile from that day.

New apartment—photos to come of inside (once my room is complete)

Hiiii Sarah!!!

And now off to San Francisco!!!!

Spontaneity is healthy

Last tuesday Erin heard that Matt Nathanson would be in town at Newport Music Hall :) He is one of my favorite artists and has been since high school when he opened for O.A.R. Naturally when Erin mentioned it casually in conversation, I freaked out and rushed to finish my work so I could get out early and not miss a thing!! Vanessa Carlton opened for him and all together... it was amazing! It was totally spontaneous and I have wanted to see him in concert since... forever!! It made for quite a memorable little adventure!! Hence... on this dreary tuesday morning, a week later, I'm wishing I had something similar to look forward to after work today!

Eee!! He was so great up there jamming with his guitar!!!! :)

Busy Weekend

Move in weekend was a success! Well, minus a few dirty blinds, and an unfinished bathroom. Other than that, I am so glad to be at the new place and aside from moving, it was an eventful weekend all around! My good friend Catie came up from Cinci to be my mom/boyfriend and help me move! I am so grateful for my friends... and this weekend I was especially grateful for her :) I also did a lot of things I wouldn't have done with out her there... like hanging a rod in my closet for extra clothes, thrifting some cheap frames and a table to spray paint, and eating at Bodega and Marcella's! Oh yeah — and I can't forget to mention the fall flea!! My first time at a flea market like that, with vintage clothes, little plants, and antiques.
It was the perfect sunday afternoon.

Catie bought this awesome red scarf from my co-worker, Keli's booth! Super cute!

First time at Marcella's was delightful! We even got a seat next to the window... which I hear is very hard to come by there!

Moving day= Happy day!

I might have mentioned I move this weekend... if not, YAY I do!! ha. I moved to columbus 3-months ago for my job at Limited Brands (Victoria's Secret) and wasn't familiar with the area at all. So my roommate, Erin, and I signed a 3-month lease (near work- Reynoldsburg), so we could familiarize ourselves with Columbus! Living out in Reynoldsburg has been convient, but now we were are moving to the young-professionals area of town! That includes Short North, Victorian Village, Italian Village, and Arena District!! We'll be in the heart of it all and I could not be more excited about it! It will be somewhat of a life-style change, for example we'll be close to where we like to go out, eat out, and shop- so it's all positive changes!
Like I said... YAYYY!!!! :)

Just a little friday luck on our move — I took these iPhone photos earlier this week right after a crazy rain storm! Enjoy
beautiful rainbow

and wonderful sunset behind me

Welcome baby Owen

I got see my brand new baby cousin Sunday afternoon... Owen! He's a doll and he slept cozily in my arms for almost an hour! I posted about my cousin Michelle and her baby shower a month or two ago and he joined us recently... September 26th at 8lbs and all 22 inches of him!!
Yayy- ain't he a cutie!?!

Letterpress Inspiration

Melyssa, a college friend visited for the weekend because she had an interview at Victoria's Secret today!! Fingers crossed she gets the job because it would be so great to have another UD grad in the office! The bond coming from a smaller college, with basically an open door policy is unreal and makes reminiscing and sharing stories so much fun. Name dropping is easy and if you don't know who someone is talking about, you definitely know their friend, or a friend of a friend! It keeps you close and creates the most amazing connections (I actually got my job at VS because of an alum's recommendation- and I am so so grateful for that!!!). I could honestly gush about my college experience for days. I do miss it already, but I am lucky to have a little brother just starting his sophomore year! I get to visit whenever I please.

I clearly get side tracked when it comes to talking about dayton...
Sunday was our little funday to give Melyssa a taste of Columbus and the beautiful Short North. We had literally the 'best happy hour in the short north' at MAC — it was delicious and filling! We stopped in at Funky and Functional down the street on High, which had really unique pieces! Kind thrifty and vintage. I fell in love with an iron bird cage... but couldn't bring myself to spend the money on it before we move in October. My other little find were these letterpress letters... I searched all of the large ones for a J, O, or a W... I wanted one of my initials!! I had no luck... but looking at this I'll have to do some more research on ebay and other thrifty little stores for these letters!

These also make me think of one of my favorite professors at UD... John Clarke!!
My type 1&2 teacher — but that's another day... another post!
